Imagine a world where no one buys a ticket to sit in a movie theater. In fact, cinema multi-plexes will go the way of the dinosaur in ten years. They will become extinct. That’s what one writer predicts as he describes the future world of technology that his child will grow up in. The average movie patron will just download a film to a home computer-TV screen or mobile device and it will cost less too. Who wants to pay for overpriced popcorn?

The author, Avram Piltch of laptomag.com, wrote in the article “15 Current Technologies A Child Born Today Will Never Use” posted on Yahoo! also predicted the demise of the DVD and Blu-Ray discs. He says video streaming will become more affordable and easier for the average user.

Here’s an interesting short film from a group of filmmakers called stillmotion. This is a film that needs to be seen by a lot of people. So please share it with your friends. Talk about it. And if you are moved by the film’s sincerity and love, start your own “save our youth” project.

Okay, here’s your assignment should you choose to accept it, go to the movies. Rate the current offerings, then report back with your findings. We’re working on next year’s theme. I can’t tell you anything yet. But, here’s a hint: a lot of people can relate to the topics. In doing research, I found this video about a particular car in Jay Leno’s Garage. It’s really a love story about a 75 Plymouth Duster. Check it out:

I never thought I would see the day that my comic book heroes would be on the big screen. Sure, I had Superman on TV. And as a pre-teen, the show was cool. Back in the day, kids would watch the show, see George Reeves as Superman jump out a window and fly. They thought that they could fly too. A few kids jumped off garage roofs!

Thanks to CGI, serious script writing and producers who believe in the genre, superheroes are on the big screen and bigger than life. The Superman-DC comic franchise started the phenomena in 1978 (with Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder) but Marvel comics soon caught up with Spiderman (Toby Maguire). Now movie goers have a smorgasbord heroes to choose from. Nearly every major comic book hero has been brought to life with incredible special effects. I am still waiting for Wonder Woman.

This year we are promised a new Batman story, a reboot of the Spiderman franchise and the first amalgamation of Marvel characters… the Avengers.

The Billtown FILM Festival is not affiliated with the Billtown Blues Festival organization. The Billtown Film Festival (BFF) is a volunteer organization dedicated to bringing independent films to Williamsport, Pennsylvania. 

Hello. In case you haven’t heard, the Billtown Film Festival starts tonight at 6:30pm at the beautiful Community Arts Center in Williamsport Pennsylvania. Tonight’s program will feature the national award winning LUNAFEST! We’ll have free samples of LUNA nutrition bars on hand! We’ll also have a mini art show in the lobby.

Well, I can see light at the end of the tunnel. We’re coasting down the home stretch. Based on some of the responses that I am getting, tomorrow night will be the best night in Billtown Film Festival history! People are coming from very distant places. People are driving from beyond Sunbury, Wilkes-Barre and Wellsboro! I am overjoyed!

So come out and share the experience. It’s for a good cause. Monies collected will go to the YWCA of Northcentral Pennsylvania and the Breast Cancer Fund.
